Where does one begin?
I have dabbled in the ways of social media to get my thoughts, ideas, and opinions out there for my beloved hobby of Tabletop gaming. I did TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram, however was wanting to see what other avenues there are and I figure the written word would be my next attempt. As a side note, I am also looking into working in something in the world of podcasts, but that's for another day.
I have always enjoyed board games growing up playing Monopoly, Clue, Payday, and The Farming game at my Grandparents place, or Chess and Backgammon with my father. Mid 90s I took a plunge into the world of Magic The Gathering, starting with a Starter Deck from Ice Age, and two booster packs, one Fallen Empires and one Homelands. I knew no one that played, and my family were not gamers so for a while I toiled around with a deck of cards. When I finally found players at school I got destroyed game after game (and anyone who knew those starter decks knows that they were random, 5 color, and no synergy). It was a learning experience and I will talk more about my journeys through the decades.
Friday Night Magic was a big part of my social life when I moved to Truro, Nova Scotia and I would regularly attended "The Batters Box." On a few nights no Magic players would make it or they would be late so the owner got me involved with a couple other people to play games like Zombies!!! And Settlers of Catan which were interesting approaches to board games, I mean no roll and move.... unheard of.
Over the next 6 years I delved into Warhammer 40k, Heroscape, World of Warcraft card game but stuck to Magic.
My real jump into gaming started around 2013 when I moved back to Manitoba and started learning more of the games out there.
Forbidden Island/Desert, Ticket To Ride, and Zombie Dice were 4 of my first purchases. The rabbit whole dug deeper over the years as my collection raised to over 400 games in my collection, almost 2000 logged plays (which I started in 2018), a YouTube channel that had some success early on but got derailed by life (a story for another time), and a realization that although I have other hobbies in life, Tabletop gaming is my passion.
If you made it this far maybe it's a sign that I should keep writing. I do not know which direction it will take. Reviews, stories, thoughts, and theories. Thank you for taking the time
